Starsky & Hutch was one of the best loved cops shows in television history. Tearing through the streets of Bay City, CA, Det. Sgt. David Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) played the wisecracking, fast talking half of the duo. Det. Sgt. Ken 'Hutch' Hutchinson (David Soul) played the soft spoken, easy going half. The infamous "Huggy Bear" (Antonio Fargas) was the duo's main underworld informant. And completing the cast was the long suffering but lovable Capt. Harold Dobey (Bernie Hamilton). Sometimes referred to as the 5th "cast member", the "striped tomato", as Hutch often refers to, was the Ford Gran Torino. The car became so popular, that in 1976 Ford produced a limited edition Starsky & Hutch car. Although fans loved the flashy Torino, it was the special comraderie between Starsky & Hutch that will best be remembered. Offscreen, David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser also have maintained a strong friendship over the years. The series came under some criticism for the violent content, which pressured the show's writers to develop scripts with lesser violence. Sadly, the show was cancelled after its fourth season. |
