Deadwood is a weekly HBO television drama that premiered in March 2004. The series is a Western set in the 1870s in Deadwood, South Dakota. At the time, Deadwood was little more than a makeshift camp, but it was a popular destination for those prospecting for gold in the Black Hills.
Deadwood features many historical figures, such as Wild Bill Hickok, Seth Bullock, Calamity Jane, and Al Swearengen. The plotlines involving these characters include historical truths as well as substantial fictional elements.
