For six years, from the fall of 1951 through the fall of 1957, Goodyear TV PLayhouse presented full-hour live dramas, originating from New York, on Sunday evenings. Some were original plays for television and some were adapted from other media. The series ran on alternate weeks with Philco Television Playhouse. In the fall of 1955, the title was shortened to Goodyear Playhouse and a new sponsor took the alternate Sundays with The Alcoa Hour.
In the fall of 1957, the series moved to Monday nights, was reduced to half an hour, and was on film rather than live. It was still alternating with Alcoa and, although the title of the Goodyear episodes was Goodyear Theater, the overall title for the series was A Turn of Fate, a designation that was dropped in February 1958. Initially there was to be a rotating roster of regular stars, but that concept petered out by the end of the first season. |
