WELCOME TO RANDALL AND HOPKIRK (DECEASED) AT CLASSICTVHITS.COM!
There's something different about this pair of private eyes -- one of them is dead! Jeff Randall and Marty Hopkirk are two private investigators in London. They are business partners and best friends. As Marty is crossing the street to go home he is struck and killed by a hit and run driver. His ghost returns, visible only to Jeff, to tell him that the police are wrong: it was murder. Marty helps Jeff solve his own murder, but in the process he fails to return to his grave by sunrise, which places him under an ancient curse: Ye not to the grave return until a hundred years be gone. THE CHARACTERS: Jeff Randall is a good detective, but one thing he lacks is luck, in both his job and his love life. Jeff is also not the best with his fists, losing more fights than he wins. Marty Hopkirk was a jealous, devoted husband, and his death did nothing to change that. Cursed to remain on earth for 100 years because he did not return to his grave on time, Marty helps Jeff (the only person who can normally see him) solve cases -- and occasionally gets Jeff into trouble. Jean Hopkirk, Marty's widow, became Jeff's business partner upon Marty's death. She was a housewife prior to Marty's death, so she has to learn the private investigative business on the run. Usually confined to the office as a secretary, she nevertheless finds herself in the midst of the action. THE LEGACY: The show was syndicated world-wide, and still maintains a loyal following. In 2000 a remake, loosely based on the original series, aired for 13 episodes over two seasons on BBC in the U.K. (and subsequently aired on BBC America in the U.S.). |
