Gilmore Girls is an hour-long American television drama/comedy that has aired since 2000. It airs on The WB network in the United States and in dozens of other markets. It was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, who serves as executive producer with husband Daniel Palladino.
Season 6 is set to premiere September 13, 2005. The show follows single, thirty-something Lorelai Victoria Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and her teenage daughter, Lorelai "Rory" Leigh Gilmore (Alexis Bledel), in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, roughly thirty minutes from Hartford. The series explores family, generational divides, and friendship, set in a close-knit small town with many quirky characters, in an updated version of the screwball comedies of the 1930s and 1940s. The most obvious similarity the show has with screwball comedies is the extremely fast-paced dialogue, updated to feature modern pop culture references. It also shares those film's perspectives on social class, represented most regularly by the mother's sometimes contentious relationships with her wealthy blue-blooded parents. The strong women characters in the show are also elements common to the genre. But Gilmore Girls is gentler than those films of generations earlier, with a more realistic depiction of the relationships among its main characters and screwball antics mostly confined to the town's quirky residents. The show's wit and character-based humor have won it a loyal following. With its humor arising from small-town eccentricities, it resembles the earlier American television programs Green Acres and Northern Exposure. It also shares the latter's use of sometimes obscure contemporary music to reflect and help set the mood. Show Description Credit: Wikipedia |
