'ER' Admits Stamos for Guest Role

(Posted September 19, 2005 by Leah Yoakum)

LOS ANGELES ( With his ABC comedy "Jake in Progress" not due back on the air until January, John Stamos will spend part of his fall in the "ER."

Stamos has signed on for a two-episode guest stint on the long-running NBC series, playing a veteran of the 1991 Gulf War who works as a paramedic and is also attending medical school. His episodes are set for November sweeps.

"I'm a big fan of the show and [executive producer] John Wells, and we have been trying to work together for a long time," Stamos tells The Hollywood Reporter. "I appreciate that everyone was able to work it out so I could do this great guest spot on 'ER' in time to start the second season of 'Jake in Progress.'"

In the spring, there was scuttlebutt that Stamos would become a full-time cast member of "ER," but ABC's surprise pickup of "Jake" laid those notions to rest. The show's renewal also forced The WB to recast its midseason comedy "Modern Men," replacing "Jake" co-star Wendie Malick with Jane Seymour.

Stamos and Wells have crossed paths professionally once before, albeit not in a hugely significant way. Wells was an executive producer of the movie "Party Monster," in which Stamos had a cameo as a talk-show host.

"Jake in Progress" is scheduled to be part of ABC's midseason Monday-night lineup in January, after "Monday Night Football" wraps up its season.
