'Idol' Star Aiken Is Achin' to Go Home

(Posted August 24, 2005 by Leah Yoakum)

LOS ANGELES ( Clay Aiken is just a hometown boy at heart.

The "American Idol" runner-up is ditching Los Angeles in order to return to his hometown in North Carolina. "Whether this ride lasts for one year or 10 years, I want to have a home base," he tells Raleigh's The News & Observer.

The 26-year-old crooner was homesick enough to furnish his Los Angeles digs with furniture from North Carolina.

"All the stuff, curtains, fabrics and whatever else is coming, too," he adds, although he wouldn't divulge just where he will be putting down roots. Sorry, Claymates.

In the meantime, he put his LA home on the market for $2.5 million. The Los Angeles Times reported over the weekend that the Mediterranean-style home boasts six bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms, a pool, spa, gazebo and a sports court over 7,800 square feet. The San Fernando area property is zoned to allow horses.

Aiken, who guest starred on NBC's medical sitcom "Scrubs" earlier this year, has been touring North America, appearing in Merrillville, Indiana on Tuesday, Aug. 23 and ending in Atlantic City on Sept. 1.
