Google Streams 'Chris' Premiere

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) If you missed the premiere of "Everybody Hates Chris," UPN is giving you a chance to see it at your convenience over the next few days. The network has teamed up with Internet search giant Google to offer streaming video of the debut episode of "Chris," which bowed to UPN-record ratings last week. The episode will be available through Thursday (Sept. 29) -- when the show's second episode airs on UPN -- on Google Video (video.google.com). "UPN's young adult viewers are avid online users, and streaming the premiere episode of 'Everybody Hates Chris' on Google Video is the perfect opportunity to reach this audience in a new and creative way," network president Dawn Ostroff says. "Everyone at UPN is very excited about this innovative relationship with Google, which offers viewers who may have missed the premiere the chance to watch it and hopefully motivate them to watch the second episode."

The "Chris" premiere is the first UPN show to be streamed in its entirety online, and the first time Google has offered such a service. The practice has become an accepted on in the past year or so, with episodes of "The Office," "Supernatural," "Jack & Bobby" and "Fat Actress" appearing online (legally) either before or shortly after their on-air debuts. "Everybody Hates Chris" drew 7.8 million viewers to its premiere Thursday, Sept. 22, the biggest audience ever for a comedy series on UPN and the third most-watched premiere in the network's history. The show beat NBC's "Joey" and FOX's "The O.C." in its half-hour in both total viewers and the adults 18-49 demographic that advertisers covet.
