Fox sees little turnout for 'Head Cases' premiere

(Posted September 16, 2005 by Leah Yoakum)

Fox had a hard time drawing a crowd to the premiere of its new 9 p.m. drama "Head Cases" on Wednesday.

The drama, starring Chris O'Donnell and Adam Goldberg as oddball lawyers, opened to 6.4 million viewers and 2.4 rating/6 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. "Head Cases" took a dive from its lead-in from dance competition series "So You Think You Can Dance" (8 million, 3.0/9) and continued to lose audience at the half-hour mark.

Meanwhile, CBS saw signs of life in the time slot with its summer reality series "Rock Star: INXS" (6.9 million, 3.2/9) which posted its highest Wednesday ratings to date. The show climaxes September 20 with the revelation of a winner to replace the late Michael Hutchence as frontman of the Australian band.

NBC's "Law & Order" repeat (9.7 million, 2.8/8) won the 10 p.m. hour; the network also had a solid showing at 9 p.m. from a repeat of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (9.1 million, 2.6/7). ABC reran the two-hour pilot of "Lost" (6.9 million, 2.7/7) from 9-11 p.m. to whet the audience's appetite for the show's sophomore season premiere next week.

For the night overall, NBC won in viewers (8.7 million) while Fox had a razor-thin margin in adults 18-49 (Fox's 2.7/8 to NBC's 2.6/7).
