ABC Forecloses on 'Hot Properties'

(Posted December 2, 2005 by Leah Yoakum)

The nation's real-estate market may be showing little sign of cooling, but the market for TV shows about women who sell real estate is about to shrink considerably.

ABC has given an eviction notice to its first-year comedy "Hot Properties," opting not to pick up any episodes beyond the show's initial order of 13. Nine episodes have aired thus far, and the network says the show will play out its remaining installments through December.

The show has averaged only about 5.9 million viewers at 9:30 p.m. on Friday nights, down a little from what "Less Than Perfect" delivered in the timeslot last season. A one-time-only Tuesday airing two weeks ago didn't fare much better, bringing in 6.8 million viewers.

ABC hasn't said yet what will fill the "Hot Properties" spot. One possibility could be the return of "Less Than Perfect" to its former home; the network has also begun promoting new show "Crumbs," starring Jane Curtin and Fred Savage, for a January premiere but hasn't given it a home yet.

The network also has yet to give a timeslot to a "Dancing with the Stars" results show. The summertime hit returns to the schedule Thursday, Jan. 5, so a Friday slot for the results wouldn't be out of the question.
