Ex-'Power Rangers' Actor Accused of Murder |
|
(Posted August 17, 2005 by Leah Yoakum) On Tuesday, Aug. 16, Orange County Superior Court Judge John Conley ordered Skylar Deleon, 26, to stand trial along with his wife Jennifer Deleon, 24, for the deaths of Thomas and Jackie Hawks, reports Reuters.
"It's haunting to think these nice, loving people were trying to hold their breaths as they sank to the bottom of the ocean," says Deputy District Attorney Matt Murphy during the pre-trial hearing. "This is as cold-blooded as it gets." The prosecution believes that Deleon, who was once convicted of burglary, approached the Hawks after seeing their yacht, named the "Well Deserved," for sale in a boating magazine in November. He allegedly hatched a plot in which he and his wife posed as interested buyers and took the yacht out on a test run. The unsuspecting Hawks were then attacked with a stun gun, handcuffed, gagged with duct tape, forced to sign over power of attorney to Deleon and tossed overboard alive. The bodies have not been recovered.
Deleon has produced a bill of sale (believed to be falsified) for the yacht. It was also discovered that he tried to access the Hawks' bank account in Arizona using the power of attorney.
Defense attorneys plan to question the credibility of Machain, who is expected to be a star witness for the prosecution. |
