'Tripping the Rift' Blasts Off

(Posted July 24, 2005 by Leah Yoakum)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The misfits aboard Jupiter 24 encounter a queer eye for the space guy as "Tripping the Rift" launches its second season Wednesday, July 27, on Sci-Fi Channel.

Carmen Electra takes over the voice role of Six, the android love slave voiced last season by Gina Gershon, as the animated sci-fi spoof sends Chode (voice of Stephen Root) and his crew of smugglers to Fabulous 7, a predominantly gay planet where heterosexuals lead lives of shame and are forbidden to marry.

The script, co-written by former "Saturday Night Live" cast member and writer Terry Sweeney, scores plenty of points in terms of political satire. But it also finds time to pay homage to the old Warner Bros. Road Runner cartoons, along with sundry other pop culture references.
