CBS Extends Grammy Deal

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) The Grammys are staying home, at least for the rest of this decade.

CBS and The Recording Academy, which puts on the Grammys, have agreed to a five-year extension of their contract, keeping the Grammy telecast on the network through 2011. The current deal was set to expire after next year's awards.

CBS has aired the Grammys every year since 1973, making them one of the longest-running annual specials associated with a single network. They're a strong ratings draw for the network, averaging close to 24 million viewers over the past six years (although last year's ceremony was less-watched than usual, drawing 18.8 million people).

The contract extension also includes the possibility of other music specials on CBS, produced in conjunction with the academy.
