Celebs Pledge Help to Katrina Victims

Upcoming celebrity benefits to raise money for relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina:

_ Kevin Smith is holding an online auction on his Web site, http: 1/4 1/4, with items including a walk-on role in his upcoming movie, "Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks," and a barbecue at his home. Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. The auction ends Sept. 16.

_ The major networks and over two dozen cable outlets will air "Shelter From the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast" Friday (8 p.m. EDT). Performers will include Neil Young, Paul Simon, Alicia Keys, Sheryl Crow, the Dixie Chicks, Rod Stewart and Randy Newman. The fundraiser will include appeals for donations throughout the day, beginning at 7 a.m. (EDT) and ending with the networks' late shows.

_ BET will host the "S.O.S. (Saving OurSelves) Relief Telethon" on Friday (7:30 p.m. EDT). Participants will include Jay-Z, Diddy, Master P, Chris Rock and Stevie Wonder.

_ Poker Web site http: 1/4 1/4 will host a celebrity tournament Friday with participants including Hilary Duff, Hank Azaria, Shannon Elizabeth and Jennifer Tilly to compete for a $100,000 donation to the Red Cross.

_ "ReAct Now: Music & Relief" will air Saturday on MTV, VH1 and CMT (8 p.m. EDT) with artists including the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Sheryl Crow, Alan Jackson, Kelly Clarkson, the Neville Brothers and Kanye West.

_ Three Doors Down, a band whose members' Mississippi homes were damaged in the hurricane, will hold a benefit show Saturday in Atlanta. The band also said it would donate $1 from every ticket they've sold so far this year to the Better Life Foundation, raising nearly $300,000.

_ The "American Idols Live!" tour will hold a benefit show Sunday in Syracuse, N.Y.

_ From Sept. 11-18, jazz musicians in New York will raise money for the Red Cross with shows in clubs throughout the city.

_ Chefs for Humanity, an organization created by the Food Network's "Iron Chef" Cat Cora, will hold an eBay auction Sept. 12-21 to raise money for UNICEF's Katrina relief fund.

_ David Banner, through his Heal The Hood foundation, will hold a Sept. 17 benefit concert in Atlanta with guest appearances/performances by T.I., Nelly and Twista.

_ Jazz at Lincoln Center's Sept. 17 benefit concert in New York will air live on PBS. Participants will include Wynton Marsalis, Bill Cosby, Elvis Costello, Robert De Niro, Paul Simon and Bette Midler.

_ Dashboard Confessional will play three benefit concerts Sept. 18-20 in Toronto, Chicago and Sayreville, N.J.

_ Madison Square Garden will host a Sept. 20 benefit concert in New York. The lineup includes Elton John, Rod Stewart, Jimmy Buffett, Bette Midler, Lenny Kravitz and Fats Domino.

_ Death Cab for Cutie will hold a benefit concert in Seattle on Sept. 21.

_ "Gospel Angels," a live concert from Atlanta, will air Sept. 22 (8 p.m. EDT) on the Gospel Music Channel and Paxson Communications' i network. The show also will include performances from hurricane victims' shelters.
