Comedy Central Hits Road with 'Comedians'

(Posted August 19, 2005 by Leah Yoakum)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Stand-up performances have been a staple on Comedy Central pretty much since the network began. The cable channel will debut a new stand-up show next year, but it comes with a new wrinkle.

The series, called "Comedians of Comedy," will head out on tour with four comics -- Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford and Zach Galifianakis -- and document some of their offstage lives as well as their stand-up routines. The show began shooting last month and is scheduled to premiere in early 2006.

"We are always looking for new ways to expand the way we produce stand-up programming," says Lou Wallach, one of the Comedy Central executives in charge of the show. "'Comedians of Comedy' fits the bill because it takes our viewers behind the scenes and on the road with some of their favorite comedians."
