NBC Taps 'Universe' Creator for Comedy Pilot

(Posted September 29, 2005 by Leah Yoakum)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Writer-producer Victor Fresco, who created "Andy Richter Controls the Universe," has a new show in the works at NBC concerning an epic battle between the forces of good an evil.

It's a comedy.

NBC has given a pilot commitment to the untitled show, in which an average guy comes to realize his life is the subject of a pitched fight between light and dark supernatural forces. The network outbid ABC to win the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fresco will write and executive produce the pilot, which is set up at 20th Century Fox TV. The studio, where Fresco has a production deal, produced his FOX series "Life on a Stick," which had a short run earlier this year, and co-produced "Andy Richter."

Prior to "Andy Richter," which earned him an Emmy nomination for writing the show's pilot, Fresco worked on such shows as "Fired Up" and "Mad About You," both at NBC. He shared in "Mad About You's" 1995 Emmy nomination for best comedy series.

His other credits include writing numerous episodes of "ALF" and writing and producing stints on "Almost Perfect" and "The Trouble with Normal."
