WB Signs Up Lachey, Brandy

(Posted September 16, 2005 by Leah Yoakum)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Two pop stars-turned-TV stars have found a home at The WB.

The network has signed separate talent deals with "Newlyweds" star/Jessica Simpson husband Nick Lachey and singer-actress Brandy, the Hollywood trade papers report. As is the case with most such agreements, The WB will now start looking for projects that can serve as vehicles for the two stars.

Lachey, who's currently contributing to ESPN's "College GameDay," is familiar to the network after having a recurring part on The WB's "Charmed" last season. In addition to MTV's "Newlyweds," he's also made guest appearances on "Hope & Faith" and "I'm with Her" and co-starred in the ABC pilot "Hot Mom" last year.

The WB is at least the third network to be convinced that Lachey is a TV star; he previously had deals with ABC and FOX.

Brandy, who starred in UPN's "Moesha" in the late '90s, hasn't had a TV project for a while, although not for lack of trying: She had a development deal last year with FOX, Touchstone TV and Storyline Entertainment to do a half-hour series, but nothing resulted from it.

Her last TV project was "Brandy: Special Delivery," which aired on MTV in 2002. Her most recent album, "Afrodisiac," debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard charts last year.
