Moore Comes Home for 'That '70s Show'

(Posted August 24, 2005 by Leah Yoakum)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Mary Tyler Moore is returning to the time and place -- both figuratively and literally -- where she did some of her most famous work on television.

Moore has signed on to guest-star in three episodes of "That '70s Show" this season, playing a local newscaster who hires Jackie (Mila Kunis) as her assistant. The episodes are set to air early next year, although specific dates haven't been determined yet.

The role will wink at her iconic "Mary Tyler Moore Show" persona, for which she won four Emmys playing the nice-to-a-fault TV reporter Mary Richards. On "That '70s Show," she'll play a character named Christine St. George, who charms viewers when the camera is on her and terrorizes Jackie and others when it's off.

Her stint on the FOX series will also bring her back to where "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" filmed. "That '70s Show" shoots on the same Studio City soundstage as "MTM" once did, and Moore will be that show's third former cast member -- after Valerie Harper and Betty White -- to film a "'70s Show" guest spot on the stage.

Moore replayed another of her Emmy-winning sitcom roles last year in the CBS special "The Dick Van Dyke Show Revisited." Her recent credits also include PBS' "The Gin Game," which also paired her with Van Dyke, and the CBS movie "Blessings."
