'General Hospital' Re-Admits Springfield

(Posted November 29, 2005 by Leah Yoakum)

After 22 years, Rick Springfield is about to play doctor again on "General Hospital."

The long-running ABC weekday serial has waited until the end of 2005 to break one of the year's top pieces of soap-opera news, since the actor-singer reprises the role of Dr. Noah Drake beginning Friday, Dec. 2.

From 1981 to 1983, Springfield was one of daytime television's most wildly popular stars, until he left "GH" to focus on a Grammy Award-winning music career that yielded such chart-topping hits as "Jessie's Girl" and "Don't Talk to Strangers."

If Springfield's television re-entry comes as a surprise to his fans, it's a shocker for him, too. "Radio has certainly changed over the last 10 years or so," he says, "and it's really taken kind of a turn for the worse. When 'Jessie's Girl' came out, it was picked up by radio because they liked the song. That doesn't happen anymore.
