Letterman Kidnap Suspect Gets 10 Years |
|
(Posted September 14, 2005 by Leah Yoakum) Kelly Frank, 43, who worked as a painter on Letterman's Montana ranch, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday (Sept. 12) on charges of felony theft and misdemeanor obstruction of justice. The sentence was part of a plea deal in which prosecutors in Montana agreed to drop charges that accused Frank of plotting to abduct Letterman's son, Harry, and the boy's nanny.
The theft charge stems from Frank overcharging Letterman for painting work on the ranch, according to news reports. The obstruction count resulted from him lying to investigators about the kidnapping allegations. He also pleaded guilty to an unrelated felony involving possession of illegally killed wildlife. In court Monday, Frank read a statement apologizing "for the grief this has caused," but he also maintained that he never intended to kidnap Letterman's child. |
