Biography: Sherwin David Harris was born on October 17, 1969 in Chicago Illinois to John and Mattie Harris however he works under his nickname "Wood". Wood Harris holds a B.A. in Theater Arts from Northern Illinois University (NIU) and a Masters of Fine Arts Degree from New York University, Graduate Acting Program, Tisch School of the Arts. While attending NYU Wood landed his first major film role in the basketball drama Above The Rim starring opposite Duane Martin, Marlon Wayans and the late Tupac Shakur.

In addition to Above The Rim, Harris also appeared in the theatrical stage productions of: Ma' Rainey's Black Bottom, The Piano Lesson, A MidSummers Nights Dream; and the Off-Broadway productions of: Waiting For Lefty, A Soldier's Play and Troilus & Cressida.Soon after leaving NYU Wood landed a role in the 30 minute short Morningside Prep directed by filmmaker Malcolm Lee (The Best Man). In Morningside Prep Harris played a character named Derrick "D-Train" Trainer for which he won the New York City 1st Run Film Festival Best Actor Award.

In the many years since Above The Rim, Harris has managed to amass an impressive list of television and film credits-among them are: The Wire, MVP, As Good As It Gets, Celebrity, Commited, Remember The Titans, Cosby, Oz, NYPD Blue, New York Undercover and UPN's new Twilight Zone.

In 2000 Wood received rave reviews for his portrayal of legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix in Showtime's Original Movie: Hendrix. Later that same year Harris received his first NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture along with the Blockbuster Movie Award nomination for Favorite Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role as Julius "Big Ju" Campbell in Remember The Titans.

Wood can currently be seen starring as Avon Barksdale on HBO's critically acclaimed series "The Wire". He also recently completed production on his self-produced debut CD Beautiful Wonderful which is slated for release in 2005.
