Biography: Marion Lorne née Marion McDougall, was an American actress born in August 12, 1883, 1886 or 1888 (sources vary) at West Pittston, a small mining town that was situated half way between Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, Pennsylvania, of British immigrant parents. She died on May 9, 1968, in New York City.
She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. She debuted in Broadway in 1905. She also acted in London theaters. She married playwright Walter Hackett, who died in 1942. She usually played roles of nervous and somewhat aristocratic matron. She appeared in The Graduate with Dustin Hoffman, not long before her death.
Her most famous role was that of Aunt Clara in Bewitched, an lovable and forgetful witch who is losing her powers because of her old age and whose all her spells end in disasters. She was in 27 episodes and was not replaced when Marion Lorne died during the fourth season of a heart attack in New York City.
