Biography: Joe E. Brown was born July 28 1892 in Holgate, Ohio. His biggest role was in Some Like It Hot, a 1959 comedy film by Billy Wilder with Marilyn Monroe. He was noted for playing an aging millionaire, Osgood Fielding III. In it, Joe E. Brown's character falls for Daphne (Jerry) played by Jack Lemmon.
Here are some notable quotes from the movie.
Jack Lemmon (as Jerry (as Daphne)): "You don't understand, Osgood! Aaah... I'm a man!"
Joe E. Brown (as Osgood): "Well, nobody's perfect."
Joe E. Brown: "The ship is in ship-shape shape!"
The film shows very clearly the social impact of being loved by any another person. Itīs the scene where an elderly person has (his) victory about loneliness or social isolation and nothing can steal it away. not at all any prejudice or reproach (in this case) about homosexuality. In Gerontology itīs very hard to find an example for such victory about lonelyness in any art form that was produced in the 20th century. Brown plays his role straight and true. Everybody can accept his shown happiness.
Joe E. Brown died in Brentwood, California on July 6, 1973.
